Postcards from Australia

Florence Spaven gives us  glimpses of Australia…

The photo was taken in Redbank, just outside Brisbane in Australia, in the early months of 2011. The floods came up over night and were around five metres deep. Through the centre of this photo was the main road down which we’d driven the previous night. Overnight Redbank had become an island isolated in every direction by dirty water, filled with snakes and debris. The previous disaster of this magnitude was in the 1970s, of which locals happily recounted tales. We left, eventually, with fond memories of the welcoming people of Redbank and how they dealt with a catastrophe with such a positive mentality.

This is a photo taken on Frazer Island, off the East Coast of Australia- you can see desert, rainforest and ocean all in one go.
